Wenig glücklich über die Strafen, aber am Ende zufrieden mit ihrem Spiel: In der Rugby-Regionalliga NRW Westfalen haben die Ibbenbürener Pirates ihren Gegner Bielefeld 40:0 besiegt.

Einen wichtigen Sieg feierten Rugby Pirates Ibbenbüren am Wochenende in der Regionalliga NRW Westfalen. Die Mannschaft von Spielertrainer Ian Creese sammelte damit wichtige Punkte im Kampf um den Klassenerhalt.

Auf dem tiefen Boden am Rondell im Ibbenbürener Sportzentrum Ost machten die Gastgeber gleich von Beginn an klar, dass sie gewillt waren, die Punkte in der Heimat zu halten. Das ist umso erwähnenswerter, da die Gastgeber verletzungs- oder krankheitsbedingt auf Dirk Winkler, David Creese, Stephan Korf und Simon Finke gleich vier Spieler ersetzen mussten. Trotz des Einsatzes von Spielern aus dem 1. Queens Dragon Guards-Regimentes der britischen Armee spielten die Gastgeber von Beginn an mit einem Spieler weniger.

Pirates battle to 19:12 win in Ibbenbüren

The Ibbenbüren rugby pirates, achieved their first Regional liga win today with a hard fought 19:12 win against the visitors from RFC Dortmund with David Creese injured the job of scrum half went to Phillip Deters making his debut, the team also saw the return to Chris Forman in action

The pirates suffered a major defeat at home to Münster, the visitors winning a staggering 80:0 with a massive 12 try haul.

At the start of the game both the pirates and Münster showed some good tackling and attacking plays, the pirates managed to hold Münster up at the line after 3 minutes but it was not long before Münster powered their way over the try line in the 13th minute from 5m, a good conversion put Münster up 7:0, 5 minutes later in the 18 minute Münster found their way over the try line once again after a pirate mistake in the ruck, another conversion made it 14:0, The visitors then scored within 2 minutes and the game turned into a one sided match Münster crossing yet again with a good conversion Pirates 0:21 Münster after 20 minutes

The Ibbenbüren rugby pirates started their Regional league bit against Bochum Witten a team we have never played before but we hope to meet more often, From the kickoff both teams showed that they meant buisness with big hits and line breaks coming as often as one would expect from two teams in the Regional leagues, Bochum Witten opened the scoring with a penalty kick by Vivien Seelweger, Pirates 0 - 3 Bochum Witten, after 10 minutes, the Pirates immediatly hit back when, after a solid scrum, Rico Wall bust through the Bochum defence and touched down under the posts. David Creese kicked the conversion to give the Pirates a 7-3 lead after 12 minutes.
